Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and Henry Schein Medical is here to support your practice in providing the highest levels of patient care.

Bowel cancer, also called colorectal cancer, is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer.

Despite these statistics, bowel cancer is treatable and curable if detected early enough. In fact, nearly everyone diagnosed at the earliest stage of bowel cancer survives.

All of this means that raising awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer, and the importance of getting checked out by your GP, really can save lives.

Our very own Team Schein member Colina was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in April 2020:

“April 13th 2020, my life changed dramatically. I was told those 3 little words that no one wants to hear ‘you have cancer’. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and would have to start radiotherapy/chemotherapy straight away. I was told I would have a permanent colostomy and would have to have my colon, rectum and anus removed.
It has been a challenging year and has tested me mentally and physically to my very limits. But in December 2020 I had my surgery to cut out my cancer and it was successful as it has all been removed.
The positives I take away from this experience is life is short so embrace it. I don’t know what life holds for me, but right now I’m alive and life is good.”

We’re beyond thrilled that Colina has made such a fantastic recovery and all of us here at Team Schein wish her all the very best for the future.
